An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
Held in two hands and used in unarmored duels as much as armored warfare, the longsword is staple of Historical European Martial Arts.
Our foundation for longsword is the Liechtenauer tradition of unarmored combat (bloßvechten) dating from the 14th century, but our instructors develop their curriculums from a wide array of sources, from Lew to Vadi to Meyer. The curriculum is developed in collaboration by the instructors to gain the most from everyone’s unique insights and experience.

“Practice is better than artfulness, because practice is sufficient without artfulness, but artfulness is never sufficient without practice.”
– Joachim Meyer, 1570
Our lessons are designed to ease beginners into the basics as well as challenge the experienced. After the lesson there is study time where you can spar with friends, train for tournaments, explore solo drills or expriment with weapon combinations of your own interest.

Longsword lessons are held on Friday evenings at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark throughout the academic year. In order to join the lessons, one must have completed an Introduction Course and be enrolled as a Steelbound student. Tuition costs are 28 euros a month, or 45 euros a month if following both broadsword and longsword lessons.
